Sunset Elementary 1.1

Sunset Elementary School functions as a dynamic and diverse academic community within the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system. Established in 1986, its International Studies Magnet Program was the first of its kind in South Florida, developed to serve the needs of the region’s international population. This program offers a rigorous global curriculum predominantly in English, alongside a dual-language component that includes official curricula in Spanish, French, and German, aligned with respective world language standards. The school’s highly diverse faculty and student body, coupled with strong community engagement, contribute significantly to its enriching learning environment.

Sunset Elementary is committed to fostering an inclusive atmosphere. Its student body represents over fifty countries and speaks more than twenty languages at home. To support varied learning needs, the school provides multiple specialized programs, including an International Studies Magnet Program, a School of Choice Initiative, an integrated Math and Science Gifted Program, an Emotionally Handicapped Center, a Learning Disabilities and Varying Exceptionalities Program, and a Pre-Kindergarten Program. Apart from formal world language classes, students are typically grouped heterogeneously throughout the school day, promoting social diversity and collaborative learning.

Historically, the site has been home to a school since 1896.
